R Ashwin was a happy man when India took a 2-1 lead in a five-match Test series against England year. However, he was not included in the Playing XI in four matches.
The fifth match was called off due to an outbreak of Covid-19 cases in the Indian camp and it has been rescheduled to Edgbaston, a venue renowned for dominance of spinners.
There is a new team management in place with Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid as captain and head coach of the team. If the current team management feels confident of the off-spinner’s impact, Ashwin could play the last game.
“I don’t remember things. I take positive things forward. I will be happy if India defeat England 3-1 because I can turn back and say that I was a part of the team that won in England and Australia.”
“Look, my selection depends on conditions. If the pitch is not favouring my bowling, I would be happy to sit out of the team.”
Ashwin has taken 442 wickets in 86 Tests.
