The vice-captain of the Indian Test team, Ajinkya Rahane, has congratulated Rohit Sharma for a winning start to his captaincy career after India thumped New Zealand by 73 runs to clean sweep the series 3-0 in Kolkata.

Rohit Sharma scored 56, his second half-century of the series, as India posted 184 for 7 and then bowled out the Kiwis for 111 in 17.2 overs. Axar Patel took three wickets to help India register their second successive series clean sweep against the Blackcaps in 2021.

After replacing Virat Kohli, Rohit, who was leading the side for the first time, bagged the Player of the Series award for scoring 159 runs in 3 games.

Rahane, who will be leading India in the first Test against New Zealand in Virat’s absence, took to social media to congratulate the new skipper.

“Many congratulations @ImRo45 for a wonderful start with the series victory yesterday. Many more to come!” Rahane tweeted.
