Bangladesh Cricketers Express Frustration Over World Cup Decision

Overview:

It was revealed that T20 captain Litton Das and Test skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto spoke about the issue and highlighted their readiness to participate in the tournament.

Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup chances are over after a meeting with cricketers and senior officials, where players were told about a decision already finalized, instead of being consulted.

The frustration in the dressing room, quietly expressed, is not so much about the outcome but about how things unfolded. Players feel that the traditional “sit-and-listen” culture has been replaced by a top-down approach, where they are left to follow.

“The meeting wasn’t called to seek our consent. Instead, we were just informed about the developments in the ongoing crisis. They had already made up their minds and decided what they would do before the meeting, and our inputs were not taken,” said a cricketer on the condition of confidentiality.

“They didn’t ask. They just made the decision and told us it’s not happening. In the past, they used to sit down and listen to us, but now they’ve already decided we’re not going. The reality is that the government had already made the call. It wasn’t about anything else it was a direct order from the government,” he added.

The quotes reflect a clear internal division. The players feel the team is prepared and willing to play, while the decision-making process appears to have moved from cricketing concerns to issues of security and state policies. It was revealed that T20 captain Litton Das and Test skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto spoke about the issue and highlighted their readiness to participate in the tournament.

After the meeting, Nazrul told reporters that Bangladesh would maintain its position, accusing the ICC of not providing “proper justice” and stating that neither the ICC nor the Indian government had addressed Bangladesh’s concerns.

“Cricket is over. If we don’t go, it’ll be a loss for our cricket. Who cares?” said another cricketer.

The cricketers were also told that the BCCI had not reached out to them, with officials raising concerns about sending a team under such conditions. “Bangladesh is supposed to participate, but if they continue like this, how can any country send a team?”
