Former Indian player Suresh Raina feels KL has shown his quality as a captain in the 15th season of IPL and how he performed with the bat.

Suresh Raina, who was an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings for years, went unsold in the recently concluded IPL 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru. The four-time champions didn’t bid for their former player. He had a mediocre IPL season in 2021.

Talking about the reasons behind Raina going unsold, former New Zealand cricketer and commentator Simon Doull highlighted three aspects which franchises might have taken into consideration.

“He lost MS Dhoni’s loyalty in the UAE and we don’t need to talk about it once again. Once you do that, you are unlikely to be welcomed back,” he said.

Doull was talking about IPL 2020 when Raina travelled with the team to UAE but he opted out of the tournament before the start, citing personal reasons.

The Kiwi player further added that Raina doesn’t play international cricket and he is not fit. Also, he had a very high base price.

“You are not fit and you are scared of the short ball and then you keep your base price on a higher side.”

“He has been an absolute gem in the league for 8-9 years but unfortunately that has come to an end. One silly mistake, you pay heavy price.”

Raina is the fourth highest run-scorer in the Indian Premier League, with 5,528 runs in 205 matches.
