Overview:
With this victory, Suryakumar Yadav also achieved a major milestone, becoming the fourth Indian captain to lead the team to a World Cup title.
Before the 2026 T20 World Cup began, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar made a light‑hearted promise to the Indian team and captain Suryakumar Yadav. Famous for his joyful celebrations whenever India win a major tournament, Gavaskar said he would celebrate with a dance if India managed to retain their T20 World Cup title.
“When the trophy is handed over, I’ll be on the dance floor. For me, dancing is my form of cardio. While others may hit the gym hard, I can’t really do that at my age, so I get my exercise through dancing. There’s an incredible feeling when you see your captain lift the trophy and the national flag rise. In moments like that, emotions naturally take over,” Gavaskar said.

Following the triumph, Gavaskar spoke highly of Suryakumar’s leadership. In an interview with India Today, he mentioned that Suryakumar reminds him of Rohit Sharma and plays a key leadership role in the dressing room, earning the respect of his teammates.
“He’s a composed and steady captain, very much like Rohit Sharma. Always cheerful, positive, and confident. He even rescued India from a tricky spot against the USA with a brilliant 84. It’s clear he’s a true leader, and everyone in the team respects and looks up to him,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
