He took just one wicket in the first ODI between India and West Indies but it was enough to impress former India player Sunil Gavaskar, who praised the young bowler. Since 2019 World Cup, India have dismissed just 10 batters in the powerplay at an average of over 120. Picking wickets with the new ball has been a major concern for the Men in Blue.

India bowled 49 dot balls in the first 10 overs of the innings. Mohammed Siraj finished the powerplay with figures of 5-2-13-1.  Gavaskar heaped massive praise on the 27-year old fast bowler.

“He bowls the first and the last delivery of his spell with same energy and passion. Siraj has improved a lot. That is what every captain is looking for. A bowler who is going to give 100 percent every single time,” he said.

Gavaskar feels Siraj will get better if he bowls more with Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.

“He will improve as a bowler if continues to bowl alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami,” he added.
