Many cricket fans have slammed Sourav Ganguly for not allowing fans in Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match in Mohali. According to him, Ganguly is punishing Virat for speaking against him before the South Africa tour.
Virat had denied the claims that Sourav spoke to him regarding leading the side in T20Is. Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar has come out in support of the BCCI President.
Kohli will become the 12th Indian cricketer to play 100 Tests, joining Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and even Gavaskar. The treasurer of PCA, RP Singla, confirmed that the Mohali Test would be played behind closed doors, as per BCCI’s directive.
“Yes, fans will not be allowed as per the directive of BCCI,” Singla told news agency PTI.
Speaking to India Today on Kohli’s 100th Test, Gavaskar was unhappy but felt that decision was taken in greater interest.
“Any game that you play, you want the presence of fans. India have played without a crowd in recent times. Be it an actor or cricketer, everyone wants to play in front of the crowd. Disappointing that there will be no crowd, I think the decision has been taken in the greatest interest. The cases have increased in and around Mohali, where the match is scheduled to be played,” he said.
However, around 50 percent of the crowd will be allowed in the second Test match in Bengaluru.
