Sri Lanka have qualified for the Super 12 round of the ICC T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka surprised everyone and won the Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE. Despite losing the first game against Afghanistan, they didn’t give up and went on to win five games to lift the 6th Asia Cup trophy, one behind India’s overall tally.

They would go as a confident side in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 to be played in Australia next month. Even though they haven’t qualified for the main round, they will likely make it to the Super 12s from qualifiers.

Mahela Jayawardene wants his nation to win this year’s World Cup, saying that the Dasun Shanaka-led side can do it.

“If they take the confidence of the last edition of the World Cup and this year’s Asia Cup, I think they can go all the way in Australia,” he said.

“They will play without any fear and should enjoy their campaign. The start of the World Cup is going to be important for them as they need to adjust to the conditions.”
