It was a harsh move given SRH's fortunes didn't change under Kane Williamson as well.

David Warner and Sunrisers Hyderabad had a nasty fallout during the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League and the Aussie star was not retained by the Hyderabad based franchise ahead of mega auction for IPL 2022.

Warner was sacked from captaincy and then dropped from the team. SRH were slammed for their handling of a player who has been a star performance over the years and also led the franchise to its only IPL tittle in 2016.

However, former India cricketer Irfan Pathan has defended the franchise. “Ppl who is questioning a franchise decision about a foreign player should also remember that the same franchise supported him when his own country banned him to play!”

In 2018, he was retained by Sunrisers despite serving a ban of one year for his involvement in the ball tampering scandal in South Africa.

However, the BCCI decided that he would not be allowed to play in 2018. Warner returned to play in 2019 and he was reinstated as captain in 2020.
