Former India pacer S Sreesanth has already laid out his predictions for the Indian squad in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. Notably, his squad mirrors the majority of players from the 2023 ODI World Cup team, including the inclusion of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Despite Rohit and Kohli’s absence in most of India’s recent T20I series, where all-rounder Hardik Pandya took charge, Sreesanth envisions Rohit Sharma as the captain for the T20 World Cup, citing his success in leading IPL teams.

“‘The big question is whether Rohit Sharma will play or not. He will be the captain because he has won all those IPLs. Depending on the situation and surroundings, either Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya will be the captain,” Sreesanth said in an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda’s YouTube channel.

Yashasvi Jaiswal emerges as the only new batting addition to Sreesanth’s 2024 T20 World Cup squad, drawing from the 2023 ODI World Cup team. Notably absent is Shubman Gill.

“Include Rishabh Pant as the third keeper if he is fit, as he may need some time to return to the setup. We require a match-winner, not someone who merely stays on the field. We require a player ready to play and secure victories. Currently, he might be the second or first wicketkeeper, depending on his form,” he added.

Rishabh Pant finds a place in Sreesanth’s squad, with the caveat that his role as the first wicketkeeper remains uncertain. After recovering from a car accident in 2022, Pant is expected to make a comeback for IPL 2024.
