Bangladesh sports minister Aminul Haque is planning to order an inquiry into Bangladesh’s refusal to play in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Haque said that a second committee will be formed to go into the details of the boycott and see if sports diplomacy failed to solve the crisis.

Bangladesh refused to play their matches in India after Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the IPL. The ICC refused to accept Bangladesh’s request, and the Tigers decided to opt out of the matches. Scotland replaced them in the World Cup.

The matter will be investigated after Eid to make sure such issue doesn’t arise in the future.

“We will find the reason behind our non-participation in the World Cup. We have to understand the reason behind the failure of our sports diplomacy. We will form a committee after Eid. It is important to make sure we don’t repeat this mistake,” he said.

On March 11, an investigation committee was formed, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board reacted strongly, saying no interference from the government will be tolerated. Haque said that the committee will have to submit the report in 15 working days.

“We know that previous governments interfered in the functioning of the BCB. I have highlighted this concern on several occasions. We have formed a committee, and I will take the next step after talking to the ICC,” Haque added.

Former captain Tamim Iqbal and Dhaka Club officials are facing accusations of influencing elections.

“The investigators will speak to the BCB president, directors, CEO and the election commissioners. The panel will also get in touch with the district administrators. According to allegations, the district administrators gave a new councillor’s name despite having already nominated one. I believe a neutral investigation is needed.”
