Ireland suffered a 21-run defeat against South Africa in a high-scoring game. Batting first in the first T20I, South Africa piled up a massive total of 211. The Irish fell short by 21 runs but managed to accumulate 190.

Proteas had a below-par powerplay as they lost two wickets. However, Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram stitched a 112-run stand in 60 balls to guide them to a respectable total.

Reeza Hendricks’ 74 off 53 helped the Proteas take a 1-0 lead in the two-match T20I series.

With his inning in the first T20I, the 31-year-old brought up his 4th consecutive fifty. He scored 57, 53, and 70 in the three T20I matches against England.

He joined the elite list of players to hit four consecutive half-centuries in T20 cricket.

New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum, West Indies’ Chris Gayle, Namibia’s Craig Williams, Canada’s Rayyankhan Pathan, and the new sensation from France, Gustav McKeon have done it before.

Notably, McKeon became the first player to hit two consecutive centuries in T20 cricket.

Nevertheless, Hendricks, who is in stellar form, won the player of the match award. He also won the player of the series in the T20Is against England. As per the latest T20I rankings, Hendricks ranks 15th with 615 points.
