South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad slammed the official broadcaster of the T20 World Cup 2026 for mocking the Proteas ahead of their match against India last week. The commercial backfired as South Africa defeated India in their first Super Eight match and is the only undefeated team in the tournament.
South Africa won the previous edition of the World Test Championship last year. Conard was asked about the pressure ahead of the T20 World Cup semifinals against New Zealand, and he highlighted the cupcakes in his remark.
“The pressure is always there. It is important how you handle the pressure. As for the C word, I think there is another one for it, cupcakes. We enjoyed that,” Conrad said.
“There is always pressure and it is how you embrace the pressure. We don’t do things differently. We are going to prepare the same way for New Zealand,” he added.
“We will start as favourites because we are the only unbeaten side in the tournament. I don’t know if that adds to the pressure. The pressure of the semi-final is enough.
“There is no added pressure. I am glad that we will start as favourites as I always wanted the South Africa team to play as favourites because it is easy to be underdog,” he mentioned.
“If we can continue to perform well and a little bit of luck is on our side, there is a possibility of giving our best performance. Hopefully, we will be able to get the result and then move to our home ground in Ahmedabad for the final,” he concluded.
