R Ashwin, who didn't play a T20I for long, was included in the side for a five-match series in West Indies.

Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI President, has made an interesting disclosure regarding R Ashwin’s white-ball career. According to him, it was Virat Kohli who wanted the off-spinner in ICC T20 World Cup squad.

“I wasn’t sure whether he (Ravi Ashwin) would be part of the white-ball team again. But then Virat Kohli wanted Ravi Ashwin to be part of the T20 World Cup 2021. And, whether little bit of opportunity he got, I thought he was superb,” Ganguly told Boria Majumdar.

Since his reintroduction in limited-overs cricket, Ashwin has not looked back. Rohit Sharma, the new skipper, has assured the spinner of a regular place in team’s Playing XI.

Earlier, Virat had categorically ruled out Ashwin’s comeback in the ODIs and T20Is despite his excellent bowling in the Indian Premier League.
