Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match in Mohali will be played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 situation. However, the fans are not happy with the decision, and are accusing Sourav Ganguly of plotting against the former skipper to punish him for his explosive press conference.
Virat had refuted Sourav’s claims that he was asked to continue as team’s skipper in T20Is. The 33-year old was sacked from ODI captaincy while he left his leadership role in Test cricket after a series defeat in South Africa.
“Dear @SGanguly99 & @BCCI … Don’t you have an iota of decency? A shred of recognition for history? A sense of occasion & of cricket’s spirit? If you don’t allow spectators at #Mohali for the #INDvSL Test, Virat’s 100th, Indian fans will despise you,” one of the fans wrote.
“The BCCI’s attempt to ruin Kohli’s final playing years out of pure spite and pettiness hasn’t affected Kohli’s popularity one bit. Instead, Sourav Ganguly has managed to ruin his own hard-earned legacy in the eyes of Indian fans,” another fan slammed Sourav Ganguly.
“SCG wants to punish Virat Kohli hence no spectators for his 100th test. It was high time Virat was replaced as Captain, but should have been done gracefully.”
India will take on Sri Lanka in the upcoming two-match Test series.
