Shreyas Iyer is recovering from a spleen injury and has been discharged from the hospital in Sydney, the BCCI confirmed on Saturday, November 1.

Shreyas Iyer underwent surgery after sustaining a spleen injury during the final ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The 30-year-old took a catch of the wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey but suffered a nasty fall, resulting in a spleen injury.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Iyer is stable after surgery and has been taken out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Iyer will now stay in the Sydney hospital for a week.

The right-handed batter is attending to calls and is eating home-cooked food prepared by his friends in Australia.

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is in touch with the players, and the two are exchanging messages as well.

“I have spoken to him and his replying to my messages. It means he is fine and stable. The doctors are taking good care of him. Iyer said that he will take care of himself for a few more days,” Suryakumar Yadav said.

He is expected to be out of action for a few months and will miss the ODI series against South Africa starting on November 30 in Ranchi.
