Shreyas Iyer Ajinkya Rahane
Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane reacted to Iyer's return to the side, saying that his experience will be crucial.

Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the first Test between India and Australia in Nagpur. He is likely to be available for the second Test as the batter is yet to recover from his back injury.

The right-handed player had to opt out of the ODIs against the visiting New Zealand side due to a back injury and was told to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehab. He is still in pain, and the medical staff at the NCA has suggested him to take at least two weeks’ rest.

“His injury is taking time to heal, and he will not be available for the opening Test, and his availability for the second Test will be subject to a fitness Test,” a source told The Indian Express.

It is unclear whether the national selection committee will announce a replacement or will go ahead with 15 players.

His absence might open the door for Suryakumar Yadav’s Test debut.

Ravindra Jadeja to join the camp

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will join Team India’s camp in Nagpur starting February 2. Jadeja was declared fit after he played a Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu last week in Chennai. Jadeja bowled 41.1 overs and took a match-winning seven-wicket haul to help Saurashtra reach the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals.
