The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed that all-rounder Washington Sundar will miss the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand due to a side strain. Sundar was injured during the first ODI against the Kiwis at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on 11 January. He has been advised to rest after scans and will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence for rehabilitation.
The national selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, has named Ravi Bishnoi as Sundar’s replacement. In 42 T20Is, Bishnoi has taken 61 wickets at an economy of 7.35. Shreyas Iyer has been recalled to the shortest format for the first three T20Is in place of Tilak Varma, who is recovering from injury.
Iyer has been a part of 51 T20Is, scoring 1,104 runs at an average of 30.67 and a strike rate of 136.13, with eight fifties to his name.
In IPL 2025, he presented Punjab Kings in 17 matches and accumulated 604 runs at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07. He hit six fifties and took the team to the final.
