Rishabh Pant is one of the most explosive batters in international cricket. At times, the left-handed player has been slammed for his reckless shots, but Pant has become an integral part of the team across formats. He scored an unbeaten 52 in the second T20I against the West Indies.
The BCCI has rested Pant from the third match and the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.
Shreyas Iyer, who was bought for INR 12.25 crore in IPL 2022 mega auction, was not included in the Playing XI in the first two games at the Eden Gardens.
When former India cricketer Nikhil Chopra was asked whether Iyer should be a part of the starting eleven, former India cricketer Nikhil Chopra said the current national team would not drop Pant at any cost.
“Rishabh Pant is an important part of the team, and the team can play him as a pure batter with Ishan Kishan keeping the wickets,” he said on the Khelneeti podcast on YouTube.
“With no disrespect to Shreyas Iyer, he is nowhere near Pant when it comes to match-winning abilities on a given day. Even on an average day for both, Pant will ahead of Shreyas,” he further added.
