On September 28, India named the final 15-member list for the ICC World Cup 2023, which begins on October 5. In the revised list, Axar Patel has been replaced by Ravichandran Ashwin. Notably, Patel suffered an injury during the Asia Cup 2023 and has failed to recover in time for the prestigious white-ball event.
In Patel’s absence, Ashwin shone for the Men in Blue as he picked wickets in the three-match bilateral series against Australia. In the latest events, a dejected Axar took to Instagram, where he posted a cryptic story, which he deleted minutes later.

In the now-deleted story, Axar wrote, “Should have taken science instead of commerce and hired a better PR.”. The text was followed with a broken heart emoji.
It was not the end, as Axar posted an image in his subsequent story, in which it was a skeleton with his heart out. Axar has now deleted these stories, but the screenshots have been doing rounds on the internet and questions are being raised over the actual reason behind Patel’s snub from the 15-member list.
Nonetheless, India will take on Australia in their World Cup 2023 opening game on October 8 in Chennai.
