Taking aim at the "clickbait culture" on social media, Malik urged the public to understand that there is far more to life than the relentless pursuit of likes and views.
Shoaib Malik, the former Pakistani cricket captain, has reacted strongly to the fresh rumors about his personal life, refuting false reports about a potential fourth marriage. In a statement released on March 1, the veteran cricketer took aim at the misinformation, emphasizing the emotional strain it has caused.
The issue first erupted late last week when unconfirmed reports surfaced on various social media platforms and online publications, hinting that Malik was on the verge of marrying actress Vaneeza Sattar on February 27. The rumors quickly went viral across both sides of the border, compelling the 44-year-old cricketer to clear his stance.
Malik used his statement to clarify the sequence of his past relationships, addressing the ongoing speculations surrounding his marital status. He confirmed that his marriage to Sania Mirza, the Indian tennis star, concluded by mutual consent in early 2023. Malik also disclosed that he married actress Sana Javed in January 2024, a decision that triggered considerable public discussion. He expressed his displeasure at the unwarranted attacks on his wife, calling the online abuse completely unacceptable.
“My first marriage ended in early 2023,” Malik said, specifically referring to his marriage with Mirza.
“By mutual agreement, we decided to co-parent our child. It was only after that decision that I remarried [to Sana Javed]. I’ve always kept my personal life private out of respect for my family, but it seems my silence has been misunderstood.”
A section of Malik’s statement revolved around his son, Izhaan Mirza Malik.
“Since my second marriage, others have tried to damage my reputation by associating me with people I have never even met,” he added.
“I believe this has reached a point where it can no longer be ignored, as my son is now old enough to come across these false and fabricated stories. These accusations are causing harm to those I care about,” he mentioned.
Taking aim at the “clickbait culture” on social media, Malik urged the public to understand that there is far more to life than the relentless pursuit of likes and views.
“If these assumptions and jokes about my personal life continue, my team will take strong legal action against the individuals and organisations involved,” he concluded.
