Shoaib Akhtar has taken a swipe at Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi after the recently concluded Zimbabwe Test series on Monday. The former Pakistan pacer, who is known for his point-blank cricket analysis, has addressed the debate around Shaheen’s workload management.
Akhtar feels Shaheen’s workload should never be a topic of discussion in the Pakistan cricket spectrum. The ‘Rawalpindi Express’ feels that the team management should not worry about the workload management of the youngster. He also took a sly dig at Shaheen by giving honourable mentions to legendary pacers, Imran Khan and Wasim Akram.
“He [Shaheen] would have bowled around 90 overs in his T20I career so far. In his last eight Test matches, he would have bowled around 150 overs. Is he tired already? Is it too much workload?” Shoaib Akhtar questioned during a discussion on PTV Sports’ show, Game On Hai.
“Stop bringing workload concerns again and again with regards to Shaheen Afridi. Imran Khan and Wasim Akram used to bowl more overs than him in the nets alone,” the 45-year-old added.
Shaheen bold just 14 overs and took one wicket during Zimbabwe’s first innings of the second and final Test. He, however, returned with a five-for in the second innings after Abid Ali had smashed an unbeaten 215 runs to take Pakistan to a massive first innings total of 510/8d. Pakistan won the game by an innings and 147 runs and sealed the series by 2-0.
