Punjab Kings had a good IPL 2022 mega auction ahead of the 15th season of the tournament. The Punjab Kings bought players like Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone and Shahrukh Khan, among others, during the process in Bengaluru.
The Punjab based franchise has retained Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh ahead of the auction, and with the additions of Dhawan to the team, speculations regarding the new captain are hogging the limelight.
Shahrukh, who rejoined the Punjab Kings for the new season, revealed his choice for the leadership role in the franchise. When asked to choose between Dhawan and Mayank, the youngster picked the former.
“I would say Shikhar Dhawan because of his experience. In a mid-auction show on Star Sports, he has a dynamic personality,” Shahrukh said.
Dhawan was purchased for ₹8.25 crore. The left-handed batter was a part of the Delhi Capitals between 2019-2021 and was also the skipper of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise during the 2013 and 2014 seasons of the event.
Punjab Kings acquired Shahrukh for ₹9 crore after a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings, Punjab, and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Punjab Kings head coach Anil Kumble was satisfied with what they got. “The demand was more than supply, but we got what we wanted. I have been a part of big mega auctions in 2011 2014 and smaller auctions. However, this was different.”
