Shakib Al Hasan
Bangladesh's ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Dhaka from the United States.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has requested another break from international cricket to be more productive.

The veteran told BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus about his wish to pull out of the South Africa tour.

The selection committee had named Shakib in Test and ODI squads after BCB president Nazmul Hasan cited the all-rounder’s availability. Earlier, he made himself unavailable with a hope of playing in IPL 2022.

However, the 34-year old, went unsold in the mega auction, leaving him with no option but to play for Bangladesh. Shakib has now demanded another leave as he is not mentally ready to play international cricket.

He spoke to ESPNcricinfo in this regard. “Considering my mental and physical state, I can’t play so much international cricket. I need a break at the moment. I was like a passenger in the Afghanistan series, which is never desirable. I didn’t enjoy the ODIs and T20Is.”

“I don’t want to be a part of South Africa tour with such a mentality. I want to meet my fans’ expectations when I am playing for the country. Playing in this way will be like betraying or cheating my teammates and the country.”
