In a recent interview, Punjab Kings’ latest sensation, Shahrukh Khan, revealed the inspiration behind his name. The Tamil Nadu player, who helped his team secure a thrilling win against Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, explained that his family named him after Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
Shahrukh’s impressive performance in the latter overs of the match helped PBKS clinch a victory by two wickets with just three balls to spare. The 23-year-old had been struggling to make an impact in the IPL, despite being a prolific white-ball performer in domestic cricket.
Shahrukh’s name has always stood out, and now we know why. He was named after the iconic Bollywood actor, who is widely considered one of the biggest stars in the Indian film industry. In a video posted by IPLT20.com, Shahrukh explained that his family, consisting mostly of sisters, were massive fans of Shah Rukh Khan.
“I was born in the year 1995, and his film, Baazigar had released somewhere around 1993-94. And my mom wanted to name me after him so that’s the reason,” Shahrukh said in the video.
Shahrukh’s story is a testament to the enduring popularity of Shah Rukh Khan, who has a massive fan following not just in India but worldwide. The actor has appeared in several blockbuster movies, including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and Chennai Express.
In the same match, Sikandar Raza made history by becoming the first Zimbabwe player to score an IPL half-century. PBKS purchased the all-rounder for Rs. 50 lakhs in the 2023 auction.
Shahrukh and Raza’s performances have been a much-needed boost for PBKS, who are struggling to find their rhythm in the IPL. With several games left to play, fans will hope the duo can continue their impressive form and help PBKS secure a playoff spot.
