Former Pakistan player Basit Ali wants fast bowler Shaheen Afridi to lead the national team in ODIs and Test cricket. Babar Azam’s captaincy is under the scanner following the Pakistan national cricket team’s winless home season, losing the T20I and Test series to England. They also lost the ODIs to New Zealand.
The 28-year-old also became the first Pakistan skipper to suffer a series sweep at home in Tests when England thrashed the hosts 3-0.
Basit Ali urged Babar to leave the captaincy and concentrate on his batting. He also said Shadab Khan could be Pakistan’s leader in the shortest format.
“Babar Azam should leave captaincy. If he leaves his role, he can break all the batting records. His captaincy is impacting his batting,” Cricket Pakistan quoted Ali as saying.
“Shaheen Afridi should lead in Test and ODI formats while Shadab Khan could be the Men in Green’s leader in T20Is.”
