The Indian cricket team will play a five-match T20I series against South Africa from June 9. Team India’s regular captain Rohit Sharma will be rested along with other senior players, keeping in mind England’s tour, Asia Cup 2022 and the T20 World Cup.
“Rohit, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah will directly go to England for the fifth Test and the white-ball series. We need all our key players to be fit and fresh for the England series,” a senior BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
If a report of PTI is to be believed, senior opener Shikhar Dhawan will be preferred over Hardik Pandya for captaincy against the Proteas.
Tilak Varma, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prasidh Krishna, and Avesh Khan are in contention. Dinesh Karthik and Bhuvneshwar Kumar may also be included.
