Legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag has compared the two knocks of Ben Stokes and Virat Kohli after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

Kohli’s fighting knock against England went in vain as Jos Buttler, and Alex Hales chased down a target of 169 in the second semi-final on Thursday. Stokes rose to the occasion in the final and led the team to a five-wicket win.

Stokes played a gritty knock of 52 off 49 balls, which was a difference.

Former India opener Sehwag said Stokes would have been slammed had the same innings arrived after Buttler opted to bat instead of bowling first at the MCG.

“He would have been criticized had the knock come while batting first. If we talk about Virat’s 50 off 40 balls, the contribution doesn’t look big as India lost the game,”‘ Sehwag told Cricbuzz during a discussion.

“If Virat was dismissed, India would have never reached 168. On the other hand, Stokes stood till the end and won the game for his country. That’s why his knock is looking better,” he added.

Sam Curran was named the Man of the Match for taking three wickets in the final.

Curran, who finished the T20 World Cup with 13 wickets, was named the Player of the Tournament.
