India’s squad for three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe was announced with Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli rested. The top players would return for the Asia Cup 2022.
While it was expected that the main players would rest for the ODIs in Zimbabwe, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif said that India are repeating Pakistan’s mistakes from the 1990s.
Talking about new captain after every series, Latif said that Pakistan used to appoint different skipper in the 90s which impacted their cricket.
He further said that India are focussing more on leadership than the performance of the team.
“They have produced seven captains in last one year. This is the first time I am seeing this in Indian cricket. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah have led the team. India are making the same mistake as Pakistan’s in the 1990s,” Latif said on his YouTube channel Caught Behind.
“They have problems in the opening slot and middle order but their sole focus is on captains. KL Rahul is unfit now, Rohit was unfit before. Virat is mentally unfit. They need a captain like Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Virat,” he added.
