Former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed has hit back at veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez after the latter labelled Mohammad Rizwan as the best keeper-batsman in the country at present.
Hafeez was in awe of Rizwan after the wicketkeeper-batsman scored a hundred in the first T20I against South Africa. His knock of 104 off just 64 balls inspired Pakistan to a 3 runs win over the Proteas.
Rizwan, who has been keeping the wickets for Pakistan across formats, has successfully taken over wicket-keeping duties from Sarfaraz, who remains out of favour ever since losing his captaincy.
Sarfaraz although is a part of the Pakistan squad, but Rizawan’s heroics with the bat have reduced his chances of returning to the playing XI. Taking to Twitter, Hafeez praised Rizwan and called him the best wicketkeeper-batsman in Pakistan, at present.
“Congratulations @iMRizwanPak on scoring T20 Hundred. U r a Star shining star,” wrote Hafeez before adding: “Wonder how long u need to prove that u r NO1 wicketkeeper/Batsman in pakistan in all formats of the game. Just asking,” he tweeted.
However, Hafeez’s tweet didn’t go down well with Sarfaraz. He reminded the veteran all-rounder that any wicketkeeper-batsman that has represented Pakistan in the past or present was the best in Pakistan at that point in time.
“Hafeez bhai Sb, whoever has played for Pakistan from Imtiaz Ahmed, Wasim Bari, Tasleem Arif to Saleem Yousuf and from Moin Khan, Rashid Latif to Kamran Akmal and even Rizwan right now has always been number ONE for the country and have been respected accordingly,” Sarfaraz tweeted.
Having won the Test series comprehensively by a 2-0 margin, Pakistan will be looking to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The second T20I will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore later today, followed by the third T20I on Sunday.
