Team India all-rounder Shardul Thakur has said that Sarfaraz Khan doesn’t need to play for India A to compete in international cricket. He mentioned that Sarfaraz’s performances in domestic cricket and experience are enough for him to be a part of Team India.
“The selectors look at boys, who can be groomed for international cricket while picking the India A team,” Thakur said.
Sarfaraz last played for India during the Test series against New Zealand in 2024 and was benched during the five-Test series in Australia. He was not a part of the England tour and failed to make the cut for the home Test series against the West Indies. Former players were surprised when the batter was not included in the India A squad for the matches against South Africa A.
“Sarfaraz doesn’t need to play for the India A team to be part of international cricket. If he starts scoring runs again, he can be included in the team and play the Test series,” Thakur added.

“He has just returned after recovering from an injury. Before that, he hit two or three hundreds in the Buchi Babu Trophy.”
Earlier this year, Sarfaraz had travelled to Australia and England with the India A teams. He scored 92 runs against the England Lions in Canterbury.
“I don’t think playing for India A is important for Sarfaraz. He is a senior player and has been consistent in challenging situations. Sarfaraz is a special player. I am confident that he will perform,” Thakur concluded.
