Chennai Super Kings (CSK) shared a video on social media, welcoming Sanju Samson. The wicket-keeper batter joined the franchise from the Rajasthan Royals in a trade deal with Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran heading to RR in exchange.
Samson donned the CSK jersey for the first time on November 18. He will play for the five-time champions in IPL 2026 after joining the team for INR 18 crore. In the clip, Malayalam actor Basil Joseph introduced Samson. The two share a close bond. The video shows a cutout of Samson being installed.
In 172 innings, Samson has amassed 4,704 runs, with the help of three hundreds and 26 fifties in his IPL career. He has smashed 379 fours and 219 sixes and has taken 89 catches and 17 stumpings.
Ahead of the announcement of the retentions, CSK and RR were involved in a trade deal for Samson. It was finalised after Jadeja and Curran agreed to join Rajasthan. It was homecoming for Jaddu, who started his IPL career with RR and played a role in their title-winning campaign in 2008.
On the other hand, Samson will bat in the top order, and there is a possibility of him leading the side. RR have appointed Kumar Sangakkara as their head coach after Rahul Dravid’s departure.
Sanju was not interested in playing for Rajasthan and informed the owners about his intentions. He was emotionally exhausted after the mediocre last season and wanted to have a new start. CSK, who were looking for a wicket-keeper, considering MS Dhoni’s age and his likely retirement, invested in the player.
Chennai finished 10th in the points table, while Rajasthan were ninth.
