Sam Konstas has revealed why Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground holds a special place in his career. The 19-year-old was a part of the team that defeated India by six wickets in Sydney to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by a margin of 3+1.

The red-ball game in Sydney is played as a Pink Test since 2009 to honour Glenn McGrath’s wife Jane, who passed away with breast cancer in 2008.

Konstas recalled that his cousin passed away due to leukaemia while his beloved grandfather lost the battle against bowel cancer.

“It is a special event and hopefully we spread awareness for cancer. My cousin died due to leukaemia and my grandpa lost the battle against bowel cancer. I hope we continue to spread awareness and find the cure,” Konstas said in an interview with Triple M cricket.

Konstas also talked about his verbal agreement with Jasprit Bumrah, who picked up 32 wickets in the series. After his fight with Sam, Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja. Sam Konstas admitted that it was his fault.

“Uzi was dismissed. It was my fault. Khawaja was trying to buy some time. Credit goes to Jasprit Bumrah for his magnificent bowling. However, we played well as a team,” he added.

Konstas slammed Bumrah for fours and sixes in the first innings of the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In two Tests, Konstas amassed 113 runs at an average of 28.25, managing 60, 8, 23 and 22.
