Sakibul Gani on Friday registered a new world record for the highest score by a batter on a first-class debut. Playing for Bihar, he scored 341 against Mizoram in their Plate group opening match at the Jadavpur University Campus 2nd Ground.
His knock was laced with 2 sixes and 56 boundaries. Gani is the first player in the game’s history to hit a triple hundred on his debut.
Gani broke the record held by another Indian – Ajay Rohera of Madhya Pradesh. Rohera had accumulated 267 against Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 campaign.
Meanwhile, Gani stitched a 538-run stand for the 4th wicket with Babul Kuma, who hit a double century.
Gani had already played 14 List A matches, scoring 377 runs.
