The former head coach feels Virat should have captained for two more years.

Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri took India to great heights in Test cricket. The duo worked hard to achieve success, and it was during their tenure, India started winning in overseas conditions. Be it Australia or England; the visitors were unstoppable. On Saturday, following Kohli’s decision to step down as the Test skipper of the Indian team, the former head coach paid an emotional tribute to one of his favourite cricketers.

“Virat, you can go with your head held high. Few have achieved what you have as captain. Definitely India’s most aggressive and successful,” wrote Shastri.

The 59-year-old called it a sad day for himself as they had formed a champion team. “Sad day for me personally as this is the team we built together,” he added.
