Chewing of pan masala is injurious to health but Indians continue to consume it. The governments are trying to educate common masses about the side effects of pan masala but cricketers like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle are spoiling their efforts.
They are promoting silver-coated elaichi — a mouth-freshener made by a famous pan-masala company. Kapil is a heart patient, while Gavaskar is 73-year old. On the other hand, Sehwag often talks about healthy products. Gayle is from West Indies, a group of countries where Pan Masala doesn’t exist.
Meanwhile, former India player Sachin Tendulkar recently showed these legendary cricketers a mirror.
“Tobacco companies offered me a blank cheque in the past to promote them, but I promised my father that I’ll never promote such brands as he said I’m a role model and people will follow what I do,” he said.
