R Ashwin was one of the biggest letdowns in the recently concluded Test series against South Africa. He came to the rainbow nation with many expectations after winning the Player of the Series Award against New Zealand, but the veteran failed to repeat his performance.
Considering his batting, Virat Kohli has preferred Ravindra Jadeja over Ashwin in overseas matches. However, even former India opener Aakash Chopra feels the left-handed batter has the edge over his senior pro.
He pointed out that Jadeja will steal a march over Ashwin if the latter doesn’t deliver with the ball on away tours.
“The fight has always been between Jadeja and Ashwin. If you have to decide on batting, then play Jaddu. But, if you have to decide based on bowling, both of them are at par,” said Aakash Chopra.
