Former India player and 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal has come down heavy on Team India's performance on the tour of South Africa.

Former India openers Gautam Gambhir and Aakash Chopra feel Team India shouldn’t rely much on players like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Venkatesh Iyer. After the middle order’s dismissal performance in the first IND vs SA ODI, they highlighted the point.

Aakash stated that youngsters are part of the middle order, and it is not right to bank upon them as they are still learning. According to him, the top order comprises of KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli will have to do the bulk of scoring to avoid putting pressure on the young stars.

Gambhir acknowledged what his former teammate said. The veteran said that India is a top-order heavy side where the responsibility lies with star players. He further added that one of the top three would have to stay till the end to guide the young Turks in one-day internationals.
