IPL reigning champion Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are up for sale as the current owner, Diageo, has decided to divest its ownership.

According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, Diageo has started a review of its investment in RCB in the IPL and WPL. The review process will be concluded by March 2026, after which the Bengaluru-based franchises could have a new owner.

While the stories of the possible sale were going on for months, the real reason could be the stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the victory of RCB after their triumph in IPL 2025.

The ESPNCricinfo further mentioned that the change in ownership will not impact the planning for the upcoming IPL and WPL auctions.

The WPL 2026 is likely to start in January next year, while the IPL is expected to begin in March 2026.
