Rohit Sharma will be rested from the first Test match against New Zealand. Ajinkya Rahane will lead India in Virat and Rohit’s absence. Earlier, it was reported that Rohit will lead India in the first match of the Test series as Virat Kohli had requested an extended break from cricket.
However, it is being reported that even Hitman will not play in the first Test. According to the Times of India, the governing body of Indian cricket has decided to rest Rohit considering his workload in the last six months.
Meanwhile, he will lead the Men in Blue in a three-match T20I series against the Kane Williamson-led team. Rohit was recently appointed Team India’s new T20Is captain after Virat’s last match as a skipper against Namibia in the ICC T20 World Cup.
