The Men in Blue pulled off a 12-run win against a hard-fought New Zealand side in the first ODI. India, batting first, went all guns blazing and put 349 runs on the board after 50 overs.
Shubman Gill stole the limelight with his double hundred. The 23-year-old became the youngest player to score a 200 in ODIs and amassed 208(149), which included nineteen fours and nine sixes.
Gill broke several records but most importantly, he silenced the critics who questioned his selection over Ishan Kishan for the recently concluded Sri Lanka series.
Gill became the youngest Indian to amass 1000 ODI runs and is all set to feature for the Men in Blue at the 2023 World Cup. There is no denying that Gill is India’s future and will be one of the key figures in the upcoming major ICC events.
Amid the praises and congratulatory texts from renowned figures, terming Gill as India’s future, a 2- year-old tweet from Rohit Sharma is also doing rounds on the internet, where he predicted Gill’s potential and called him the future.
It is not the first time that Rohit predicted the potential of an emerging player. The other instance when Sharma was bang-on with his prediction was with Suryakumar Yadav. In 2011, the hitman also called SKY the future of India.
The fans were stunned by Rohit’s talent to predict the future and hailed him for his observing skills.
