Rohit Sharma in nets
Rohit Sharma returned to nets for the first time since Bangladesh series.

On Sunday, Rohit Sharma returned to the nets for the first time since injuring his thumb in the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh on December 7. In the match, Rohit sustained stitches in his thumb after attempting a catch at slip. Nevertheless, Rohit came to bat despite being injured and scored a valuable 51 (28).

The Indian skipper then missed the Test series and is also reported to be sidelined for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, scheduled from January 3- 7.

In the latest development, Rohit batted in the nets at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy ground in BKC on Sunday.

A person present at the venue confirmed the news and said, “Rohit batted in the nets for 15 minutes separately and then at the nets of the Mumbai Ranji team. He also came to the Mumbai dressing room.”

The news has left Rohit fans hopeful for the hitman’s return for the ODI series. According to sources, the BCCI will announce the squad for the Sri Lanka series on Tuesday, with Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja set to return for the fifty-over tour.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya is likely to lead the Men in Blue in the T20I series.
