Overview:

India’s next big assignment will be the Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to start on June 12 in the United Kingdom.

According to former India skipper Rohit Sharma, the country’s recent achievements in international cricket might be the start of a long era of dominance. He also hopes that both the men’s and women’s teams continue to perform.

India’s men recently secured their third T20 World Cup title—and second in a row—on March 8 in Ahmedabad, following the women’s team’s historic first ODI World Cup victory in Navi Mumbai earlier this year. Speaking at the launch of the T20 Mumbai League Season 4 in Mumbai, Rohit described these achievements as a proud moment for Indian cricket.

“I feel extremely happy and proud to witness the results of our efforts,” Rohit said.

He also applauded the women’s team for their remarkable World Cup performance, highlighting how inspiring it is to see Indian cricket thriving.

“Watching not only the men’s team but also the women’s team win the World Cup in Mumbai was incredible. And recently, what the men’s team accomplished was simply phenomenal,” he added.

Looking ahead, he stressed that the focus must now be on sustaining this momentum and building on the recent successes.

“And I hope this is only the beginning and there’s no turning back now. We often talk about momentum. Both the men’s and women’s teams have it, and I just hope we can maintain it,” he said.

India’s remarkable journey in international cricket kicked off when Rohit Sharma captained the men’s team to the T20 World Cup triumph in June 2024. They followed it up by claiming the Champions Trophy in March 2025 and made history again in 2026 by defending their T20 World Cup title on home turf.

The Under-19 men’s team, captained by Ayush Mhatre, lifted the World Cup in Zimbabwe last month, while the Under-19 women’s squad, led by Niki Prasad, secured the championship in Malaysia in 2025.

India’s next big assignment will be the Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to start on June 12 in the United Kingdom.

Drawn into Group 1, India will face Pakistan, Netherlands, Bangladesh, South Africa, and Australia.
