Once Rohit Sharma was unhappy with him.

Shardul Thakur has contributed with the bat and ball for Team India. He has bailed India out of trouble while batting, with his three half-centuries coming at crucial junctures.

His maiden Test fifty in Australia was magnificent as he and Washington Sundar’s effort gave India a chance in the Gabba Test. Shardul played an important role in India’s win at the Oval against England a few months later.

He hit two fifties in the game. However, there have been times when he has let the team down. Once Rohit Sharma was unhappy with him. This was during the second innings of the Gabba Test as India were chasing 328.

With India losing Mayank Agarwal and Washington Sundar quickly, Shardul came out to bat. He was expected to bat smartly with Rishabh Pant but was dismissed after amassing just 2 runs.

“Shardul Thakur was walking in when Washington got out. Rohit told him, ‘This is your opportunity of becoming a hero’. And he just nodded and left,” Rahane said on the documentary ‘Bandon Mein Tha Dum’ streaming on VOOT.

However, he was dismissed. Rahane then added: “Rohit was sitting next to me. He said, ‘let the match get over, let us win. I will teach him a lesson. I said, ‘forget it, we’ll see once the match is over.”
