Rohit Sharma made a big comment on the leadership qualities of Jasprit Bumrah.

Rohit Sharma made a big comment on the leadership qualities of Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian skipper is happy to have Jasprit as his deputy for the upcoming T20I and Test series against Sri Lanka, saying it hardly matters if a batter or a bowler is part of the leadership group. Bumrah was named India’s vice-captain for the first time in the South Africa ODI series earlier this year.

Bumrah has the responsibility against Sri Lanka as KL Rahul is injured and out of the series. Infact, KL was India’s vice-captain in one-day internationals against West Indies at home, while Rishabh Pant took over as the vice-captain in T20Is.

The selections committee and the team management want to groom Rahul, Pant and Bumrah as future leaders.

Bumrah has become one of the most important players in all formats of the game, and Rohit believes vice-captaincy will increase in confidence.

“It doesn’t matter whether it is a batter or a bowler. What matters is the cricketing brain and he (Bumrah) has a good brain. I know him well and I understand what kind of cricketing brain he has,” Rohit said on the eve of the 1st T20i against Sri Lanka in Lucknow.

“Good for him to step into the vice-captaincy role. He has taken his game to the highest level. The new role will give him more confidence. It is nice to have him as the vice-captain,” he added.

Bumrah, who was rested for the West Indies series, will be leading the bowling attack in the T20Is and the Tests against Sri Lanka.
