India captain Rohit Sharma explained the decision to promote Ravindra Jadeja up the batting order against Sri Lanka in Lucknow. He said that the team management plans to use the left-handed batter higher up the order more often.
After a long injury layoff, the all-rounder returned to the team and batted at No.4 as the Men in Blue scored 199-2 in the first T20I.
Rohit Sharma-led team won the game by 62 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
“Very happy with his return, and we want more from him as a batter. You will see him batting up the order in the upcoming games he plays for India. I want him to bat up the order more,” he said.
“He is a very improved batter, so we will try and see if we can promote him in the batting department,” he added.
Speaking about big grouds in Australia, the host country of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Sharma said – “We are very clear what we want to achieve with him in shorter formats. I love batting on big grounds as they test you as a batter.”
