Rahul Dravid took over as Team India’s head coach after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE. Team India’s new limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma has lauded the former Indian skipper.
Rohit stated that Dravid worked hard as a player and wants the same efforts from the current set of cricketers.
Speaking to Boria Majumdar on his show ‘Backstage with Boria’, Rohit said:
“Rahul Bhai was a brilliant cricketer. We all know this without any doubt. We all know his style of playing cricket. On many occasions, he has admitted that he wasn’t so talented. He worked so hard to get to where he is today. This will reflect on the team, I believe.”
Sharma further clarified his point. “Making sure we work hard together. Nothing is handed to you on a platter. He will require you to work hard. You will feel great about the process if you do this because it is a process.
The Indian captain also said players would have more clarity under his coaching tenure.
“And there’s a structure. People will love that. The guys that are going out, coming in. They will see why they were left out of the team, how they got there, and their motivations. Rohit stated that this is something he will be able to create.
“I don’t think he was wrong to have spoken to each of us personally and asked them about their feelings about themselves, what role they want in the team, what they can offer, and which position they would prefer to bat. He also said that the same applies to bowlers.
Sharma went on to add:
“He went personally to us and spoke to us all. We were just trying to understand each other. He’s worked with India A and India U-19s, and was also the NCA chief. He knows every player inside and out. He doesn’t pretend to not know everyone. He already has a bond with everyone. Now it’s about moving that bond forward and taking it to new heights.”
