Sunil Gavaskar was not pleased with Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid’s tactics of not giving the ball to R Ashwin for almost the entire first hour of Day 2 of the third Test against Australia in Indore.
He was brought into the attack just before the drinks break. By then, Peter Handscomb and Cameron Green had taken Australia’s lead to over 75.
Gavaskar spoke against Rohit’s habit of paying more attention to the match-ups instead of the quality of the bowlers.
“I don’t understand the focus on match-ups by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid. R Ashwin wasn’t given the ball right from the start and he bowled just before the drinks break. Ashwin got the wicket of Handscomb. He is a match-winner and has taken 450+ Test wickets,” said Sunil Gavaskar.
The number one bowler in ICC Test Rankings then got rid of Alex Carey and Nathan Lyon as the Aussies were bowled out for 197.
Gavaskar asked the Indian team management about the treatment of the legendary spinner despite him being the best bowler.
