India captain Rohit Sharma is back to lead the Men in Blue in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. With Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill retaining their places in the squad, the management has taken a tough call while naming Rohit’s opening partner.
The 35-year-old captain revealed that Gill will be his opening partner in the three-match series.
“Gill and Kishan have done well for the team. I think it is fair to go ahead with Gill as he scored a lot of runs in the past. I am not taking anything away from Ishan as he has been wonderful for us. Kishan scored a double hundred and it was a big achievement. But it is important to play those guys, who have contributed in the past,” Rohit told reporters on the eve of the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka.
“It is unfortunate we won’t be able to play Ishan Kishan. Looking at things, it is fair to give Gill that run as he has been a regular contributor,” he added.
