The T20I series between India and South Africa ended 2-2, but Rishabh Pant was in the news for his captaincy and mediocre display with the bat.
The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter managed scores of just 29, 5, 6 and 17 with the fifth and final game washed out.
He was slammed for his reckless shots with many cricket experts calling for his exclusion.
Danish Kaneria has questioned Pant’s fitness. The former spinner said the 24-year-old needs to work on his fitness levels.
He cited the example of Virat Kohli and said that even current captain Rohit Sharma is unfit.
“Rishabh Pant’s fitness is not upto the mark. There was a big change in terms of fitness when Virat Kohli started leading India. But Pant is lagging behind,” he said.
“Rohit Sharma is a batter but even he is unfit. But Pant needs proper fitness as he is a wicket-keeper. Due to his weight issues, he is not flexible. He goes after the bowlers from ball one. Mental toughness and maturity will also only come with fitness,” he added.
